Pool Preventative Maintenance
The following procedures are what we find to be most effective.
Test Water: Check for Alkalinity, pH, Free Chlorine, Stabilizer, and Hardness levels. Make sure that all levels are within their acceptable range.
If Total and Free Chlorine levels are different, then you have Combined Chlorine (also known as Chloramine or Organic Contamination), meaning that your Chlorine is locked up. Phosphates may cause this and fuel the growth of algae.
If levels are not where they belong, adjust as required and circulate between chemicals in this order:
Seasonal Preventative Measures:
First Signs of Algae: Cloudy water, slimy walls and/or floor, green tint* to water, visible growth on walls and/or floor, first areas which may show growth are under lights, step areas, swim-outs.
